For Students

Great writers are not born, they are made.  Writing is an art that takes time, patience, effort, practice and persistence. When writing is a strong basis for entry into prestigious institutes of higher learning, its importance cannot be underestimated as an insight into the applicant’s life, thoughts and experiences.  How will this person make a difference to our campus?  What will he/she bring?  Why should we admit her/him?

If you want to learn the keys to college essay success, you must begin by reading the book “Accepted” by Gen and Kelly Tanabe. In fact, any book authored by this team, including, “The Ultimate Scholarship Book” is excellent. To learn more about yourself, as that is key to learning what college is best for you and writing a winning essay, read “What Color Is Your Parachute? A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers” or the one specifically geared for teens, “What Color Is Your Parachute? For Teens: Discovering Yourself, Defining Your Future.” Another book that is helpful is “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens” by Sean Covey. All are available on Amazon.

To learn the 10 key ingredients to writing a winning essay, 10 mistakes to avoid, read essays from one draft to the next that have been edited by our Chief Editor and helped students win admission to America’s top colleges, please call us for a consultation or register to attend one of our webinars. Please visit our Events page here to learn more about these seminars or how you can host one in your area/part of the world.

You can schedule a seminar or workshop at your high school/organization/place of worship for students and families in your community. We can travel locally in the DC metro area, nationally, as well as, internationally to meet your needs. We have experience working with students/individuals and families who speak English fluently, as well as, those who do not. If you are looking for ways to improve your writing, the importance of reading, cannot be stressed enough. It is not necessary to read all the classics determined by others, reading books that have moved you and/or made you think matter. The more you read about topics you are interested in, the more exposure you get to different styles of writing and the more ideas you build for your own writing.

What makes for great writing?  According to Minha Kauser, Chief Editor at Winning Essays, any writing that provokes thought and questions is valuable but what matters even more, is if it is memorable.  Creating and leaving a lasting impression is what makes for brilliant writing. And, you can find great writing anywhere – in a proverb, a speech, book, film, or essay.
